Here at Woodlands, we aim to provide an exciting science curriculum which develops our children’s knowledge and boosts their confidence when using investigative skills. We do this by ensuring weekly science lessons take place, during which our children are encouraged to think and act like a scientist: discovering the answer to questions they have is a great way to learn!

We hope that the high quality teaching and learning which is provided by our teachers, combined with exciting enrichment activities, will inspire Woodlands’ children to become scientists of the future!

Science will be fizzing this year at Woodlands! Here is a taste of some of the events lined up already:

We get off to a flying start in September, when F2 and KS1 will welcome Steve Dewsnap of Rockcliffe  Raptors. He will be bringing in some creatures that look just like Woody....   Don’t worry KS2; you will meet Steve and his feathered friends when they return in March.

March will indeed be an eventful month in 2016: following the success of the previous two years, we will be getting involved with British Science Week again. Classes will plan and carry out their own investigations and then present them to the rest of the school. The winning team will then take part in Wirral’s Big Science Event: more details to follow later! Just to help things along, our science week will start with a bang as The Science Boffins join us for an entertaining assembly followed by amazing hands-on workshops!

At the end of May, Woodlands will be holding another science competition, this time to promote biodiversity. Using recycled materials, children will design a bug hotel: the winning design will be built for our school grounds! Bed and breakfast anyone?
